Scholarships for Students from Latin America Colombia’s Colfuturo is a non-profit foundation established in 1991 with the backing of the National Government and prominent private sector companies. Its primary objective is to provide financial support and increase the opportunities for Colombian citizens to pursue high-quality postgraduate study programs abroad. Given that only a tiny percentage of Colombia’s professionals possess doctoral degrees, Colfuturo plays a crucial role in nurturing talent and facilitating the transformation of the country’s social, economic, and cultural landscape.

Financial Support Model

Colfuturo utilizes a Scholarship-Loan model to assist students. each student is offered up to US $50,000, which can be requested in full, even for programs as short as one year. Scholarships for 80% of the loaned amount can be awarded to students who meet specific conditions, including earning their postgraduate degree, returning to Colombia, and staying in the country for three to five years.

Scholarships for Students from Latin America Requirements

To participate in Colfuturo’s annual application process, students should follow the standard admission procedures of the educational institution in their chosen country. Colfuturo does not interfere with the application and selection processes of universities or study programs. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate advanced proficiency in a foreign language and hold an undergraduate degree, except for those applying to double-degree programs.

Selection

The selection process considers three main criteria: the academic quality of students, the quality of the study program, and a comparison among all applicants while maintaining anonymity.  academic quality is assessed based on undergraduate GPA, ranking within their graduating class, and an essay.

Additional Information

Colfuturo students receive a 30% discount on tuition fees at VU Amsterdam. Individual invoices are provided for all students, clearly stating the original tuition fee and the 30% discount offered by Colfuturo. You are to upload the invoices to the Colfuturo system for payment arrangements.

Nominated Colfuturo students have 2 years to enrol at their selected university. For example, the list of nominated students received for 2020-2021 is still valid for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 academic years.

FUNED is a private operating foundation dedicated to advancing the professional careers of future Mexican leaders through higher education. They provide complementary financial aid and scholarships for Mexicans pursuing Master’s degrees abroad at some of the world’s top 200 universities and 100 best programs.

Scholarships for Students from Latin America Requirements

To apply for FUNED funding, applicants must meet specific requirements:
– Be a Mexican national.
– Have achieved a minimum GPA of 8.0 on a 10-point scale in their first-degree program (i.e., Licenciatura) and hold a first-degree Mexican “Título.”
– Submit an official Certificate of Admission issued by VU Amsterdam to FUNED.
– Submit the application to FUNED no later than 90 days before leaving to study for their Master’s degree.

Additional Information

FUNED funding can be combined with financing from CONACYT for studies in the field of Health. It can also be combined with financing from EdukPro.
